hey campers, we are back with some new goodies for you! this one is by the completely virginal duo death bulb, who have never released a single track before, which is quite ridiculous as they have been producing this stuff since 2012. this is simply some of the best industrial noise techno around! it starts out with the title track zement, a total dancefloor killer that still gives me goosebumps after hearing it about a million times. you will eat this up! second on the a side is breathe in, breed out, a hilariously rough beatdown with lots of heavy breathing involved - slays it every time! ultraviolence never felt so enjoyable! the b side starts out with a rare guest appearance of label daddy hanno hinkelbein who donated a remix of zement for you people who like straightforward techno. lots of heavy bass and a crunchy ravepad, driven by relentless percussion. the vinyl ends with the broken banger bettina’s betrayal - noise at it’s finest, somewhere between i-f’s “i do because i couldn’t care less...” and old afx.

the sound of studio one can be identified by the great singers that it cultivated along the many great songs that these singers released. but as studio 1 s dominance was slowly pulled away by the up and coming new breed of producers many of the artists would inevitably end up working for these new camps and so the songs and singers found a new audience. the reggae sound of the studio 1 would make a great combination and the man to pull this was together bunny lee.

i discovered benoit b through his own label - banlieue records. he’s part of a new breed of young french producers who make music without any hang-ups and that are inspired by the entire history of house and techno and everything in-between. i liked the combination of club beats with a deep, super melodic approach. the 6 tracks featured here almost make up an entire album that reflects benoit’s skills and sense of production. everything is here -from ambient experiments to heavyweight club tracks and beyond. here, bear witness to the new sound of france (even though he lives in berlin!)

terence fixmer his known in the late 90s , early 2000s as the creator of the tbm, described as techno body music. a mixture of the ebm soundscape with the modernity of techno. his muscle machine album (including tracks lile electrostatic, body pressure) released in 2001 became a reference of the genre. in 2003, musician terence fixmer and legendary singer from cultissism band nitzer ebb, douglas j mccarthy embarked on a project that spearheaded the fusion of techno and ebm. they named it fixmer/mccarthy and they were the precursor to a new breed of techno artists that manage to traverse between an array of scene specific genres without being tied to any. since releasing their first album, >between the devil<, in 2003 terence and douglas have ridden the line between pure techno and the recognizable song structure of classic electronic music and ebm. now, with over 13 years working together for this project and playing around the world, they return to their signature raw sound and delivery. >so many lies< is quintessential and brooding techno, while the instinct mix epitomizes their ability to craft a catchy bubbling baseline whilst all the while dispatching cold steel aggression.

kyle geiger returns on his home label with a set of tracks designed to recapture the basic function of techno. it s music to sweat to at a party. additionally, this package aims to capture a sense of timelessness through melody interwoven with a pumping breed of techno rhythms. the title track, homecoming, starts with a bottom-heavy percussive workout, then presses forward with an array of slowly filtering brighter synth stabs. the breakdown sees an arpeggiated synth slowly overtake the rhythm of the track just long enough to build tension and bring things back to full speed. the verge is a very stripped back, drum track style cruiser, which builds tension with a rising distorted pulse sound filtering in and out. just as it seems that the back half of the track will carry on as planned, a running melody comes in and changes the direction of the entire track. the verge (beat tool) is identical to the original, but build for those a little shy about slightly more upfront melodies.

valcrond video, the label run by sound and image artist luke wyatt (torn hawk), apresents vv-013 russos *wild metals*. russo (ari russo) is an nyc based multi-artist whose engagement with abandoned media finds an outlet in the video bursts he culls as officefern. as a programmer, he has produced innovative music generation tools such as the diamond arpeggiator. he returns to his own music with this collection of challenging and transporting structures. wyatt and vv are eager to endorse russos latest report on crossmodal perception, a true exercise in synesthesia. *wild metals* sounds like ferns and orchids infiltrating a tableaux of black plastic electronics, the breed of black plastic that russo and wyatt both found sinisterly inserted into the grid of their childhood. it provided the skin for some of their favorite toys, and its general resonance was aligned with the fast cars, women, and architecture that dominated their imaginations.

as our true fans know, every now and then we leave our comfort zone to bring something else than techno. this season, we gave dib from italy the honor to be the unusual one. three tracks, three times basic, stripped down house that does well as a tool or a track in the early or deep hours of the night. or just for those people working hard at the office and wanting some deep house during their officework. all tracks have a very old skool vibe to it and breathe true deep house: not the filtered down vocal kind, but the breed that just lets a 909, 808 shine and some rhodes or warm analogue synths do the work. the first one is rather detroitish - with a nice acid stab and some strings setting the mood, the second one is more dance floor oriented and the third version is a bit of both. does it need to be said that dimitri andreas mastered it again? and that it is available on vinyl?

through ties with the likes of glenn astro, muff deep, brandt brauer frick and ctepe 57, copenhagens tartelet records have become a coterie for an auspicious breed of modern-day oddball. opting for analogue gear, the tartelet mainstays bring together lopsided sampling and loose-limbed rhythms suffused with a distinctive degree of resistless energy. shapeshifting with each record, the releases continue to roll behind the success of max graefs *rivers of the red planet* lp. the next instalment comes courtesy of a previous collaborator with max - nigerian born vocalist and songwriter kesiana a.k.a wayne snow. now a resident of berlin and with music as his liberator - snow stands at a comfortable vantage point where escape from a tough past is visible. now in full flow - his first ep *red runner* sees snow drop a deluge of soul over grubby rhodes tones, contorted melodies and tumbling drums backed up by remixes from glenn astro and delusions of grandeur regulars session victim.

second release of the gost zvuk label, strictly focused on the contemporary russian electronic scene. this joint was made by aem rhythm-cascade also known as dada ques and many other monikers. locked in his studio in st. pete he built his path from a beatmaker to a fundamental composer exploring the acoustics, sound synthesis and sampling techniques. it is hard to relate this music to a certain genre, but you can definitely hear the quality and deepness, spiced with the original slavic touch. simple and raw these multilayered symphonies bring out the new breed of russian composers backed up by their prolific heritage.

german hot shot sable sheep is next up on the famed desolat x series bursting onto the seen in 2011 with releases on moon harbour, be as one, and defected records sub-label dftd, sable sheep has quickly positioned himself at the forefront of the new breed of electronic music producers.

a new line (related) is the latest venture from lancashire-based andrew johnson (hood/remote viewer/moteer). utilising tools from the early days of home produced underground dance music (such as sk5 sampler keyboards and vintage drum machines) andrew has unearthed a beautiful album of downbeat, lamp-lit techno, industrial grade ambience and sonic experimentation which at times recalls early warp records, gescom and raw, 313 area beatdown house, as well as the more modern breed of electronic and techno travellers such as actress, mark fell (late period) and even theo parrish (the slow sound of your life).

kris wadsworth is an increasingly rare breed of artist that flat refuses to play industry games and pander to current trends, focusing on the darker, more uncompromising (and more honest) realms of electronic music. releases have steadily clocked up for such esteemed imprints as boe recordings, nrk music, alphahouse, get physical and morris/audio, landing on hypercolour for 2009’s impressive ‘deport this” (and subsequent single “mainline”), and it is for the eclectic and forward thinking uk label that wadsworth aims his second full length player at.

2013 proved to be an excellent start to life as a label for music is love. as well as truly finding their feet and establishing a breed of music representative of what the label symbolise, they simultaneously introduced us to plenty of fresh new talent and particularly pleasing was the unearthing of numerous promising uk artists

for their sixth release, lets play house has headed down under to scoop up australias fantastic man, a second identity of dj/producer mic newman, with which the melbourne-based artist explores-and exposes-another side of his musical and stylistic skills. and the four original songs on the its essential ep most definitely mark a bit of a departure from newman’s trademark sounds: he has exchanged the thumping, peak-hour, hands-in-the-air chaos and messiness of hits like 2009s *sizzled sally* for a more refined and subtle breed of deep house.

stuck in the 9-5 grind, stifled by the impersonality of constant social media and mobile interaction, contemporary urban life can be suffocating. for a certain breed, release cannot be found in the vast, unpopulated great outdoors. urban animals congregate in heaving warehouses, seeking solace in the liberating beats of the kick drum. they are bound not by association, but through a shared experience of primal relief felt in those shadowy, dance floor corners swelling with the sounds of low end frequencies and brazenly sculpted grooves. this is the urban animals jungle.
